The Transforming Teacher

A Life Long Learners’ Blog

How has technology changed your job?

Technology is up and coming. It is a huge part of our world… communication, finances, reading, shopping, school…. So many components of our lives are now coupled with technology… so naturally it only makes sense that most people are going to learn to use it…

Even the young learners… Now at first glance this can seem awful and scary. Technology replaces teachers reading and singing with children, real life experiences and conversations. It affects children’s ability and desire to focus. We tend to focus on the negatives… but as with most things… there are positives too. We must find the balance.

Children know how to use phones; they open YouTube, Snapchat, the camera and games… instead of shaming parents for allowing children to use devices take the time to teach children about safety and to safely navigate their interests.

It’s a tool for research so use it. Teach children to be curious and how to look up their questions and inquiries. Research alongside them.

Virtual Field Trips- Since COVID a lot more places are now offering live webcams of awesome experiences! (I.e. wildlife, how things are made, the inside of toys and trinkets.)

Zoom calls/videos- Sending videos of learning or introductions or checkins to families.

So in summary…. Yes technology can be scary and has definitely changed the world I work in…. but if we find the balance, see the good and walk the line alongside children and learn with them we can all benefit from the wonders of technology.

Tech On.
