A Life Long Learners’ Blog

How do you use social media?

A while back I posted about how I have managed my screen time which in turn has immensely benefited my mental health.

Not much later I sit here trying to find a balance. I stepped away from social media intentionally. It was a difficult decision to make but I did so for me. I hadn’t looked back or even remotely missed it. Then I wrote a book…

I hoped my blog here would be enough for me to get myself out there, my book out there and for a business to thrive. I gave in and created an instagram account. I am not going to lie at first it felt dirty. In fact it still does. I do not like the feeling of forcing myself my experiences and my work on to others. But how else do you “sell” how else do you let others know what you are up to? I don’t like that I went back on my word and created an instagram account in the first place. But it is time to be the bigger person and take control. To keep the peace and balance I have made a few promises to myself;

First- it’s for work. I promise to not be on my socials in my down time. I promise to not be on it for scrolling purposes. I promise to only be on my socials to spread my work, my purpose and my reasons for being on socials.

Second-I promise to keep it professional. I will do what I can to connect my accounts together. Unfortunately, this may mean creating other accounts but I still have some investigating to do on that. This is a professional journey and I plan to keep it that way. For me, my mental health and for those around me.

Finding the balance is key. I know myself and I know my personality traits. I know it will be (and has been) a challenge to not be on the socials for fun or doom scrolling. But, I will be in control. I will do this for me and for my business. I can take control.
