The Transforming Teacher

A Life Long Learners’ Blog

What are the most important things needed to live a good life?

What may be considered “the good life” to some may be completely opposite of what the same phrase may mean to others. Life is full of experiences that help to shape and define the lives we live and aids us in figuring out what we want and need out of life. What is it that leads us to these experiences? What is that motivating force that influences us to “give it a go” “take a shot?”

In my experience that motivating factor is inspiration. Inspiration can come in many shapes and forms; again what may “inspire” one may be a negative driving force for another. But regardless inspiration can lead to a good life even if just a single experience.

For so long I have wanted to be the inspiration for teachers. I wanted to work alongside them to enhance their teaching practices. I wanted to be a role model who did and said all the right things. Now, years later I come to realize all of this… inspiration is different for everyone and can come at any time.

Working with Ms. Colon a few weeks ago (see my post regarding Overcoming Fear) I realized that for me inspiration can come from the opportunity to work alongside someone I admire and respect. I now want to work harder and do more for the opportunity to work with her and others in the future.

Working with Tori and her preschoolers I realized that inspiration can also come from someone else’s pride or accomplishments too. Children were inspired to draw pictures and write words from the book I (their visitor and special guest) authored.

While working with Ann and Karoline I realized inspiration can come from another’s “shove.” We can and should be that assistance and driving force for the children in our lives. Inspire them to want to grow and learn.

In life it is ok to lean on others. It is ok to ask for help, guidance, and collaboration. In fact when working with others (especially children) we can often offer up a spark of inspiration or motivation without even realizing it… while also receiving the same. The more I work with teachers and children in this new capacity the more excited and inspired I get to transform my work, resources and books into more helpful tools for growth and life in general.

To all the educators I have been working with lately and anyone who has given a like, follow comment or the simplest of interaction… thank you truly for the inspiration you have given me to transform into this new me and this new “good life” Talk soon!

Inspire On!
