The Transforming Teacher

A Life Long Learners’ Blog

I woke this morning with a desire to create. The need for stimulation and sensory. What better way to start the day (for me) and year for my teaching friends with a “simple” experiment.

I kept to my morning routine… morning movement, reading, household chores and a sudsy lavender scented bubble bath. As I was soaking and admiring the purple blue bubbles floating all around me, I decided to explore baking soda and colored vinegar later because it reminded me of the bath bomb I was currently admiring.

Finally it came time to conduct my experiment. I prepared all my mise en place. I set up my camera for videos and pictures. I pressed record on my phone. Next, I added blue vinegar to the white powder and to my astonishment nothing happened. The white powder turned blue but remained a wet clump. Frazzled I tried another color… nope. Brought my ingredients back inside… Silly me I grabbed the CORNSTARCH NOT THE BAKING SODA!

Que me rinsing out my bowls and utensils. I made sure to grab the right ingredient this time. Bowls now filled with baking soda, I trekked back outside to attempt round 2.

I bring the blue liquid to the white powder and immediately hear the satisfying sizzle of the ingredients interacting. I rinse out my pipette and go again this time red then yellow then clear for one last satisfying bubbling of stinky liquid and a mysterious white powder. I look down at my phone and realize I had pressed the picture button instead of the record video button.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”

Back inside I go. Rinse out my bowls. Dry out the bowls. Back into the closet to grab yes, I double checked, the baking soda. Measure and pour it into a bowl.

Round 3… vinegar?✅ BAKING SODA✅ pipette✅ phone on record✅

It’s time. I conduct the experiment one more time. It’s perfect. It’s sizzling. It’s bubbling. It’s beautiful. It’s recorded.

I clean up my materials and head inside a bit frustrated but I immediately am able to laugh it off and think to myself how thankful I am to be where I am. I literally just played with vinegar and baking soda and now am sharing it with teachers, children and their families. How amazing is that?

I have worked through a lot to get here. But I am doing it. I walked away from something I absolutely loved and now I am doing what I can to help better that field, career, and experience.

I am transforming into a healthier happier version of myself. I am so lucky to be here and am excited to keep doing it all to help transform you and your experiences to a healthier happier version of yourself. You got this. We Got this. ✌️🫶
